I put yesterday on the counter
right next to where I hang my house keys.
It was right there where I left it an hour later,
holding down the grocery list
and the reminder about the birthday cards,
then I went to the window
to see if it was raining
and when I turned around,
it was today.

The sky, with silver highlights in her hair, sips her tea and waits for the party that is today to begin.

What we keep in mind

The mind must remember that there is a bottle of capers in the fridge,
 that Tuesday next our appointment is now at 9:20,
that the sun is really out there warming us up.


The heart has the harder task:
to remember that love is here,
sometimes just as hard to see as the capers or the sun,
but here.

Interrogatories

The child-mind keeps asking:



-Is it yet?


-Are we almost?


-Do we do?

"Yes" I say softly,"Nearly"


But, as with most grown-ups,
I have no idea, just hope.

Horizon Ships

I swam out to them. It was darker and foggier onboard.
