Choosing

We don't choose which day we are born nor which day it rains;
but life begins the day we start to celebrate both.

Benches 1 - the Short Novels

Whenever I am in Central Park I like reading the short novels, that's what I call the plaques  on many of the benches there. They tell, in about as few words as one could, the biography of a person or a couple, the rememberance of some great love, a few final thoughts on how someone saw the world.
There are constant surprises, small insights into the lives of these lovely people. They must have all been lovely and loved.

I'm going back to take another shot of this one from Richard to Alice.
I'll  take some more as I see them and share them here.

See you in the Park.

The Next Breath

First light can be as cold as first water from a faucet.

Splash its sharpness on you, drink some of its clarity.
Breathe--- and suddenly-- the world is warmer.

Sighting

Even on days you cannot see her, the sun is always swimming there behind the cloud curtain.
So too with Love, although its clouds are made of different fabrics, different clouds.

Companions

Hope, for all her loveliness, is not your best running partner; she only goes so far.

Finishing takes one of her sisters, less beautiful, but with you at the end.

What's her name? Go. Find her.

Appointment

Since midnight I've been surfacing,
diving back down into a dream I'd been dreaming
about dreaming I was dreaming.
A glance at the clock showed
I'd been holding my breath for
sixty eight minutes, forty nine minutes, eleven
or fifteen or five.
Still, whoever I was waiting for
at that corner
at that mailbox
at that intersection
must be standing there now,
waiting for me to surface.

Head Start

If you try, you can beat the day to the starting line, you can be out there around the first turn; pull away before the dawn realizes you're gone.

.wait. .have .I. .ever.?

When you have déjà vu about having déjà vu, do you remember remembering that you meant to remember?

Flicker

Ideas fly faster than songbirds, your mind is not a sieve, 'tis a net to catch them.
